Noise from the North!

Although the FINOLA variety of hemp remains listed in the EU Common Catalogue, the EU subsidy was removed for the industrial cultivation of FINOLA after the hot and dry summer of 2006, when a few poorly controlled field samples tested over the 0.2% THC limit in Finland, Sweden and the UK. The following articles describe key features of ignorance and poor administration of this complex regulation at various levels of governmant. It is still a wonder why FINOLA has remained on the appoved list of industrial hemp varieties in Canada, where it has averaged less than 0.15% THC since 1998.

Read on to learn how persistent complaining for a just cause eventualy dose gets results in the EU!

BREAKING NEWS ON THE SUBSIDY SITUATION FOR FINOLA IN THE EU as of 15 March 2010

In 2008, The EU Commission decided to reconsider new THC results for FINOLA. Such results were recently obtained from two well controlled, independent agricultural trials in 2009 by Agrifood Research Finland (MTT). This research was funded by the Agricultural Ministry of Finland (MMM), and now clearly shows that the FINOLA THC "problems" were due to human error through late sampling. These agricultural trials will be repeated in 2010, and MMM will present these results to the EU Commission at their next meeting on 15 November 2010. At that point, the EU Commission will decided if FINOLA will once again enjoy the agricultural subsidy that is so freely given to other industrial food crops in the EU.

Additional information will be posted here to keep you informed on the progress (or lack of it).
